At the start of the pandemic I had more than enough time on my hands to to focus on things I normally didn’t have much time for. Namely, my skincare routine.
Sure, I’d slap on a facial mask every now and again, but not with any regularity, to be honest. I didn’t need another new product; I just need to follow a skincare routine.
I’ve tried a few skincare routine apps over the years that promised results including a couple that had a face-scanner feature to analyze skin texture, but quickly got frustrated. They were all trying to do too much. They had communities, ads, features to ask questions. It was just too much. It felt more like social media than a dedicated skincare app. When I came across the Skincare Routine app, I stopped searching.
Why Skincare Routine App?
The Skincare Routine app is so simple to use but has an abundance of features designed better than I’ve seen before that have helped me formulate a regimen that works for my skin.
What To Use When
Of course, you can inventory skincare products like your favorite essences and skincare tools with photos, ingredients, times of day to use, how many times a week, etc. The plus is, the Skincare Routine app will warn you what products conflict with others. For instance, if you use an exfoliant, you may be alerted to skip the AHA toner or vitamin C serum.
Another plus is that no matter how you enter your products, when you view your routine, every item is under its correct Layer Step. And the developer, Chris, has thought of everything! There’s even a Hair Products category. No one seems to think beyond the face or neck when it comes to skincare apps so that’s just sweet.
Print and Share
Another fun feature is the ability to print or share a skincare routine. You can even select the background color and everything you did that morning (or night) after you’ve completed your regimen is picture perfect and ready to share!
Photo Diary
I’m head over heels for the photo diary! Even when I can’t see improvements in the mirror day by day, all I have to do is flip through my Skincare Routine diary and see how my skin looked a week or even months ago. I don’t take cute selfies; I get closeups, right to the pores! You can take multiple photos, too, so you can all angles.
Budget Friendly
Besides the fact that Skincare Routine app is only $3.99 to purchase (no subscription ) it’s also helped me notice how much I’m spending/saving on skincare products.
For instance, I’ve been using Hanskin’s Hyaluron Bubble Pop Cleanser, a sulfate-free foam cleanser that dissolves impurities without stripping skin.
The instructions suggest using 2 pumps per use, but since I’ve been using distilled water exclusively for my face (which means I’m using much less water, approximately 3 cups per day) I use just under 1 pump per use. I recently ran out and one bottle of cleanser lasted me 9 months, from September until May, and I use it every single day. I wouldn’t have noticed that if I hadn’t entered the purchase date in the app. I just re-ordered on Amazon. My next bottle will last even longer.
Timer
If you have a waiting period between product application, Skincare Routine app will tell you when to move to your next step. I don’t really use this feature – I prefer the audible alert of my device’s timer.
However, it’s very convenient that as soon as you click a step with a timer, it starts counting down and you’ll get a pop-up alert when time’s up.
Autopilot
It’s satisfying not having to think about what to use and when. When I’m in front of my vanity, my device is right there with me, usually. I just don’t count on myself to remember to add it to the app later, especially when I’m on a streak, which is why I needed the app in the first place. I forget. I know at a glance how many days ago I last used a product.
The Skincare Routine app also stays open while you’re using it so you don’t have to tap on your phone or tablet with wet hands while taking care of your skin.
So obsessed with Skincare Routine, I’ve added my Facial Flex workout, body wash, neti pot, nutritional supplements and hand scrubs to my skincare regimen. Beauty isn’t just skin deep. If it has to do with beauty and my body, it’s in the Skincare Routine app.
After Effects
This is just my own observation but it’s made a difference in how I tend to my skin. I’ve become far more patient and luxuriate in the time I spend taking care of my skin.
You ever notice that just about every lotion, cream, serum or other potion specifically says massage into skin?
But when’s the last time you really massaged anything into your skin? I can say, now, every day.
Every single day I take my time. I’m no longer standing in front of the sink rushing through steps like I’m going to win a prize for shaving off minutes.
It’s a pleasure now to enjoy each step of my skincare regimen.
And I don’t know if it’s because I’m seeing results now that I’ve gotten things under control, but I’ve noticed I’ve started extending my skincare.
For example, I scrub my hands daily and find myself now scrubbing my forearms and elbows, too. I don’t just use sunscreen on my face and chest, but also on the back of my neck.
Although the Skincare Routine app is inexpensive at just $3.99, I admit I wrote to Chris, the developer, and told him how much I appreciate this app and how surprised I am that it isn’t subscription-based. I’ve used several other apps and none come close. And the updates are frequent.
I don’t have to try a bunch of apps once I find the one that works the way I need it to. Skincare Routine is it!
Check it out!
